Let's pray together for the victims of torture !
During the night of June 27th to June 28th, the Night Prayer Vigil for torture victims will be taking place throughout the entire world.
Welcome to the English-language part of the Night Prayer Vigil site. Twelve ACAT organizations from various countries from all over the globe are inviting Christians of all denominations to commit to pray for torture victims.
Prayer is at the heart of action
In all countries of the world, Christians, individually or in groups are asked to relay each other in prayer during the night of the 27th to the 28th of June. It will start at 8.00 pm and continues until 8.00 am the next morning. Through the night, prayer and praise will be uplifted to God, upholding and supporting those called to action.
Our world-wide vigil
We are all called to hold vigil by sustaining our prayer throughout the whole of the Saturday night; in this way Christians together will focus on the fervent hope of a world free from all forms of torture. We pray that darkness will give way to light, death give way to resurrection and imprisonment give way to freedom for all those who are suffering torture.
Take them in your hand !
God has no other hands than our own.
In the context of the International Day of Support for the Victims of Torture, ACAT (Action by Christians Against Torture) calls for Christians all over the world to become night watchmen by praying for those who suffer at the hands of torturers.
That they be put into ours, so that we may send them the force of the Holy Spirit.
That they be put into God’s, by our prayers.
Ten people and 10 general situations symbolic of many more which you may hold in prayer
They are Chinese, Tunisian, Zimbabwean, Turkish, Iranian, Erythrean, Tanzanian. Held, beaten, tortured. Because of their political stances, because of their struggle for Human R ights and for the protection of the poor. Or those who are condemned to death by a State, by guerrilla warriers, or even by their fellow citizens. Because they are albino. Or because they aren't members of the "right" religion. Or because they are not members ofa particular ethnic group.

What is the Night Vigil?
It’s a night of prayers throughout the world, organized by ACAT in support of the international day of support for the victims of torture. ACATs propose that all Christians of all confessions committ themselves to pray for victims of torture in the course of a night, for a moment or throughout the night. Be it individual or collective (see under “Your Initiatives”) prayer becomes cry and praise, accompanies actions and conveys them to the heart of God.
