On the night of June 23 to 24, to mark the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture (June 26), Christians around the world are committed to support through their prayers those suffering in the hands of torturers.
Find a vigil near your home!
Christians around the world are called to watch either at events held close to their home or on their own in any other place, in a night when prayer first is a cry and a praise, then a support to their actions and finallly a relay to present these actions to the heart of God.
Asked to remain vigilant in prayer, Christians will carry together the hope for a world free from all forms of torture. So that darkness becomes light, death becomes resurrection and imprisonment freedom for those who are tortured.
They may be Mexican, Angolan, Russian or Lebanese. They have been beaten, tortured, executed. For their political commitment, for protecting the poorest, for not having the right religion, not belonging to the right ethnic group, for the choice of their sexual orientation. By a State, by guerrillas, or even by their fellow citizens.
